Am I selfish?

Post by richsheldon »

I really enjoy watching other people lose on fruit machines, not as much as I like winning but its not far off lol.

Is it just me or does anyone else share this evil trait?

I think its partly because it means I have more chance of winning but even when I'm not playing them I like to see people lose.

p.s, I'm talking about strangers losing lol, I'm not evil enough to want my mates to lose.

I ummed and ahhhed about what to vote here, as it's not technically 'selfish', although it's not exactly 'right' to 'enjoy' other people losing. (how many quote marks can I use in one sentence lol!)

I don't like seeing people lose loads of money, as I know how that feels from a few years back. Different, however, is watching a chav chuck his money in and getting wound up about it, and then getting thrown out! I'll then casually wait until he's out of sight and proceed to play the machine he was on (if it was starting to show signs, of course!)

Other times, I'm quite content to help someone do well (if, say, I'm playing the machine next to them.) Can often get a free beer out of it! :)

Just remember how it feels if someone's watching you when you're not doing so well, it's not pleasant!

:)

It would be interesting to hear the views of the person who said they like to see everyone lose except themself lol. Would it make you happy to stand and watch your mate lose a load of money? I don't know whether to laugh or cry lol

It's not all strangers that I like losing, but the people I do like to see lose are those that think they can come into a pub, share a coke between 3 of them and move from machine to machine. I wouldn't mind if they were having a drink each, but there is a crew of between 3 and 5 people operating in Canary Wharf at the moment, and they literally buy one drink between them. Some landlords have now sussed this and refuse them in the pub. The culprits normally make some comment along the lines of that it's out of order, to which the manger/bar staff will inform them that they don't have to let anybody on the premise if they don't want to.

and at a long shot id say they were probably tooling the machine.

3 to 5 people to play one machine? hmm, sounds more like one to tool one to bend the cabinet and three to get in the line of sight!

I believe if there were, they`d be loaded so why draw attention to yourself with being tight with the drinks.........
I love it when a plan comes together

well, they dont sound too good at it if they were tooling, as ive seen people doing it solo and doing it very well.

you get it a lot where people go to gamble and dont even uy drinks in pubs, so one between about 4 or 5 people isnt that bad!

lol

i dont know or care if they are doing anything illegal, its wierd going out in such a big group, unless they are doing what i see 10 year olds doing in the chippy, playing after each other not going "halfs" just playing in turns

Im always wanting my friends to win about £10/£15 but not £25 (they dont force machines very often)..
I remember once watching a mate on vamp it up and saying to him 'you have a tenner there!' (nearest win) he took it and thought I was a genius, but it says on the scroll bar! he seemed pleased.. but was just part of my plan of dropping it later on...

but a lot of times recently the nearest wins have been 25, they come out the blue sometimes..

If they have had a fair run for their money then they have paid for their amusement. If they have put £200 straight through a lo-tec then they are getting fleeced. If you transposed the question to "Do you like seeing a drunk lying in a puddle in the street" or a junkie in cold turkey" you might get a different response. Some people "have" to gamble.

I do have a little sympathy for people that play some of the newer machines around today, espcially those on 50p play. The entertainment and board ratios on some machines are a joke!!

But what I dont understand is the people that have been playing for years and STILL don't seem to have moved from the 'munting' stage. I mean in my local village pub there is a guy that constantly loses on a Juggling Jackpots. Its not just this machine but every other machine they've had in there for years.

Now he's not a stupid guy, had a good job etc etc, but he still can't seem to grasp such basic rules/concepts. He doesn't collect the small wins but doesn't push for the big wins so on a machine like JJ its just a slow painful death.

Its the same in arcades as well, you see the same people that have been frequenting the place for years constantly losing and yet returning every other day/week playing the same stuff but without learning a damn thing!!

Its those that I dont have sympathy for. I also have sympathy for anyone that is starting in this game from new!! Lot to learn and a lot of money to be lost!

If someone gets a very lucky random win (eg a GATW, Random IM or anything) I'm happy for them, especially if its on something I would not play.

On the other hand, I do get quite annoyed in this situation, which has happened oh so many times to me:

Set of GGs, you go on #1, It's a bit shit, 60 in and still no LES.

Someone goes on #2, gets a nudge in, goes flat. Value gone. Cheers.
