I've got a few quid to invest. Halifax at 2.8% is a waste of time. I don't mind something more high risk.

you don't need high risk, gold mining stocks, with $600-850% extraction costs per oz, spot price being upto a $1000 more. Theres companies making good profits, should continue for some time.

Bonded plantations for one. For disclosure I currently consult for a plc investment company with FSA auth number (for the last 3 years) and clients
Have gotten returns of around 17% IRR.

There are other vehicles that I won't bore you with, but as a real world example, it'll do.

There are other products over 7 years that have just started to mature that are returning up to 25%.

You need a fair bit of capital to invest in these vehicles though usually upwards of 15k. But hopefully food for thought for all you pros with cash laying around not making it work for you !

If you have 10k to invest, I can introduce you to a company that specialises in government backed agricultural investments
With IRR's projected in the 17-20% JG. Or If you're still interested in the FTSE100 business I spoke to you about previously drop me a pm.

You need to understand things to an extent, but if you take no risks, then you get no rewards. Before you take on any investment you should do what is called your due diligence on the company, product and figures.
