London Playing

Post by Mattb »

Just got back from a weekend away in Kensington. While i was in London, did a massive tour round and found (quite amazingly) that virtually any machine i went on was ready for a push. Anyone else play in London at all?

Started in Kings Cross, the pub in there is a red heaven. Got Life's a Beach/Bling Bling/Pulsation and a BFM Cool Jewels. Got right to work on LAB, and within about £30 i'd had £25, red FTF (£25) and red star prize (£16) and left it. Frittered a few into Bling and Pulsation, but neither were red so took a few quid and left. Moved on to Leicester Square. Went into wethers there and found a TAW. Forced that and got Red Series for £35 from an IM. This then rolled and gave another red series for £42 next board, with 8 winspins (£14) the very next board. Cost about £50 for that lot. Most Daunting gave a good nudge rip on Red sevens with a setup then gamble. Yates's next door had a RM and Kings Ransom. Managed to rip £20 from 2 green Notes on Kings, while RM was dead.
Rolled on to the next 'spoons in Whitehall, with SA (off)/LS/Most Daunting/BFM Bullseye. LS was again playing well, and gave Strike It Rich off about £20, going the full £50.
Moved onto Oxford Street. Not a lot down there, but went down a few sideroads, and found a pub with a DNA. My fave machine, and we got straight into it. 2 blocked £15 gambles, but we finally got to the top via 3 DNA strands after about £35 (which i've NEVER seen before). Rolled for a cool £75, with a £8 afterboard from DNA. Taking off what we'd spent on food, travel and drink, we finished about £110 up Saturday.

Went down to Westminster/Tower Bridge sunday, and found another spoons at Tower Bridge. More DNA/YDD/Casino Crazy/new Maygay. Straight onto DNA, which was full straight away. Decided to do the DNA method and force it, when something amazing happened.....nudged in a DNA on a 6 when nowt was on, and it went for £38?! Highest i'd ever seen was £22. Knowing it wouldn't effect the top pot, we pushed on, and had Big Money in about the next £15. Another £50 there, and we left it a good £60 up. All in all, about £150 up over the 2 days.

I know there's loads of wethers in London, just wish i had the time to tour them all. Could have been a massive amount of profit. The only nark i had was paying £4.10 for 2 small cokes in Yates's (Leicester Sq.). Unbelievable!

Forcing is just playing the machine for Jackpot/Top Feature without collecting anything on the way. Eventually the machine has taken so much in without paying out, it gives you the top feature. Depending on the machine, it is varying amounts.

My fave 2 are Life's a Beach/DNA, when i quite often get £50/£75 from the Big Money feature. The trick is knowing when to push a machine for the top, because if you just go and force a machine like a DNA that has paid £75, it'll more than like take £100+ to get the top again. Practice, discipline and knowledge are a fruit machine players three best (imaginary :wink :) friends. Once you've got all of those, you are well on the way.

No Refill Key is needed. I don't even bother using mine these days, waste of time if you ask me. People seem worryingly obsessed with them.

Legal Tender is the best out of those you've got there, and can run for well over £100. You are pretty much right about the others being crap though.
Check how many red features you are being offered on feature entry, and if the cash stack is going beyond £5. Ideally you want more than 50% of the featuers to be red. If yes and yes, just keep forcing it until you get LT. It can give only £10 from the top sometimes, but if it does that, just play for another one. Don't try doing it with less than £100 on you though, just in case. There's always the occasional mishap where the machine doesn't play ball. If it's in a decent state though, it shouldn't cost a great deal, probably £40 maximum, ideally around £20.

It can be anything from £10 - £110. The £25 JP only refers to one credit. Machines by law in the UK can only give £25 per credit. There is a credit break while the £25 is banked, then it can carry on in subsequent credits.

Once you get to the top on LT, you get shots at the notes. Don't worry if you get the £10 first shot, i've had £80 from LT just getting blue £10s. If it does give a low amount, you can just force out another and hope that it goes for more.

Matt - as a Londoner, I can honestly say I'm shocked you did so well in the locations you visited.

I have never, ever known the machines in 'Spoons at Tower Bridge to play well. I used to monitor the Top Giza in there and soon realised that the same group of people were always in there staring intently at it and leaping in at the right time to kill it off every day.

Leicester Square is usually covered by about 400-odd players and half the population of China, so I'm amazed you were in the black there!

Oxford Street is reknowned for only having one pub - a very famous one - but as you say the back streets are good pickings.

As for Kings Cross station - that was definitely your best win - the machines in there have more sharks than all the Jaws films combined!

The place to head is Bishopsgate - anywhere near Liverpool Street station, where the heavy-pocketed businessmen roll out every afternoon and throw loose change away like confetti. The UK headquarters of ABN-Amro bank has pubs either side which are good profit venues.

Still amazed as you succeeded in my must-avoid places! :o ops:

PS. on the subject of pub prices - £2.05 for a Coke is fairly standard in the middle of town, suffice to say ...

it's the £3.50 bottles of Bud that do my head in!

:x

Really - wow!

There was me meticulously planning another London raid. I just figured in such a big city full of tourists and visitors it would be prime to hit. Couldn't believe my luck when i found 2 DNA's and both rolled, especially the 'spoons one at Tower Bridge. I know there are umpteen wetherspoons in London, couldn't be arsed to find any others. Know what else is about?

Erm - Those posts are dated in July! I haven't been there since, so in all likelihood all of those have probably changed now.

If you plan on going don't drive, as parking is nigh on impossible. I can get an all day train & tube ticket for £14 odd here, so i just do that.
