Sadly I think it's just a vicious circle now of neglect and poor maintenance. I now *expect* to encounter mechanical or similar problems in virtually every location - even with a machine where the coin mechanism, screen and all games are working correctly, I would still expect to encounter a failure...

You have to chuckle: "No complicated features here, just a single winline" - it's the "Hello World" of fruit machine games... ;)

The most depressing recent development for me has been the sudden disappearance of SWPs from so many of the Wetherspoon's pubs. It must be at least 60% of those I've visited in the last few months don't have one now, and in plenty of those the removal has happened since my last visit. It's too wides...

I think it's called an iQuest but, as cool says, the latest WWTBAM version is all but unplayable anyway even without this bug, which is sad considering how in its early incarnations it was probably the single most important game the industry ever produced.

A very similar menu to that one, but in a smaller cabinet (which usually failed to pay out any win at all!), survived until earlier this year in the bowling alley in Woking. Caveman Capers being included looks a bit odd to me - from memory that is a couple of years newer than the other games on ther...

You called? ;-) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon's_razor The quirk I have encountered with Pointless is that it doesn't seem to give consistent points for the same answer across rounds - they seem pretty consistent in rounds 1 and 2 but, unless my mind really is going in old age, I am sure I have...

I have to say, muddle, that for a second ever thread you speak a lot of sense! My own view is that there are really only two likely scenarios - that the current machine loss rate continues, in which case 3-5 years would actually look a very optimistic timescale, or that the position will stabilise s...

I hope the reason that they don't seem to be doing anything about isn't because they've decided not to spend any more money on the maintenance of quiz machines,as they're going to be phased out. Sadly that is to a large degree the correct answer. They don't take enough in many locations to make the...

Just to save anyone an unnecessary trip, I can confirm that there are no machines (either AWP or SWP) in the new 'Spoons at Beaconsfield. It's a shiny new build and, as with the similar Harvesters, they have clearly decided machines aren't part of what they are offering. I know it was too far for ma...

I have long thought that the coin acceptance mechanisms on quiz machines are the single most unreliable type of mechanical/electronic device I encounter anywhere in my life. There is nowhere else that I would tolerate anything like the same failure rate, and you do have to wonder what proportion of ...

Just to clarify, I am not Drpepper despite much of this post reading exactly like one of mine! ;-) The FatSpanner cabinet you saw is one of the older Open cabinets. I have long thought that they are one of the companies that is beyond saving in terms of SWP provision, for all the reasons you outline...

Oh, and a question about the chase. Has it always had that final round? We could swear we have won before just by getting home with the money... I haven't seen it without that final round but it did get a limited release before disappearing then reappearing (once the licensing issue had been resolv...
