The 'Pointless' game is certainly extremely controlled, I agree. It is quite entertaining but the round before the final one can pretty much knock you out at will. If djs is right that the answers are the same every time, then theoretically perhaps it could be learnt in the manner that better player...

I don't think Monty Hall logic applies to DOND.

Wow. Certainly I never got a £20 on DOND although I think I was told of a couple of times it had happened to people. Nor on 1v100 (or Golden Boot II!)

Surely a player of DH's eminence would have done Capers hundreds of times back in the day?

It's all very well saying "the bar has been raised" but the fact is pubs are getting rid of their machines. That said, I managed to JP a game on a Gamesnet today for the first time (ie that particular game). I'd still be very surprised if there were any quiz machines left this time next y...

I'm certainly at the stage now where I scarcely play at all - machines are more "something I used to do" than "something I do currently". I never played machines for anything other than monetary reasons so when the money dried up it didn’t take me long to cut down my play, first ...

I've played this a few times. Quite fun but highly controlled and far too many film questions of a prodaic kind.

As far as I'm aware DMAC did return to Scotland. An elusive fellow.

There's been at least one game in the past five years or so where the design of the game was such that use of a mobile to search for answers at key moments was possible. You had to pick your moment, though. Never a cert, though - many questions don't yield that easily to searching, and reception can...

I've been down to about an hour's play a week since the birth of my son in late 2012. Sad to see a hobby I used to take a fairly obsessive interest in dwindle away to zero but it has been increasingly difficult for non-full-timers to make any money at all off machines over the past year or so. I pla...

I'm not a pro, but over 15 or so years of play, which have included times when I have made some reasonable sums from SWPs, I've only been banned once. Even that wasn't expressed as a ban - I was playing a pub on a central London council estate when I realised that the landlady and two meatheads were...

Excellent discussion - pleased to see at least someone began machining even later than I did, Paragoon (I started in 1996 aged 18, on the JPM Monopoly in our College Bar). 'Beat the Clock' was a magnificent machine which gave me quite a few JPs. I remember one time when out with pals in a pub on a S...

Anyone prepared to discuss how the Sheffield guy won £27k in a week? That's £4k a day!
