The coinslot and payout mechanisms of SWPs seemed more reliable 20 years ago than now.

The payout on old machines was like the Battle of Stalingrad. You could hear it in the next street.

The Monty Hall Problem has no bearing on the DOND situation. With MH you have a three way choice but you are shown one of the two losing choices, with the condition you cannot be shown your own box whether it is winning or losing. So the only way you can lose by swapping is if you held the winning b...

The later stage questions during the early years of UK Millionaire were easier than they are now. Even so it was over two years before anyone won top the prize and I think by that stage the makers were desperate for someone to win it. The first big win also rather conveniently occurred when it was u...

It is certainly the top earner (for the operators) at the moment. How far it has to go to outstrip Millionaire and Bully I don't know. When you go in a pub and someone is playing the machine it is most frequently that game they are playing. The money game does have a compulsive element to it (if you...

I have alway been slighty annoyed at people who draw attention and create publicity about "the business". It only creates extra heat for the rest of us. In the past many of these people were fringe players rather than hard-core pros. These two have probably already made more than £10k out ...

£1 play Bullseye - what is the point?

I saw my first £1 play Bullseye on the Gamesnet yesterday. The prize board however rather than being doubled appears to be exactly the same as on the 50p version. At first glance the prizes don't seem to be any easier to win either. Are they expecting people to part with a quid for the same expectan...

£40 Deal or No Deal

I saw my first £40 Deal yesterday on the Gamesnet along with the £20 version as a separate game. Bad news for Millionaire fans is it seems to have been included at the expense of Millionaire.

When this has been tried before people have been relucant to participate. Naturally the persons who are the best players on a particular game are reluctant to share anything with anyone. And recording questions, researching answers and writing them up is too much hassle for many. I think it could be...

Heathrow used to have several SWPs in the public areas of the terminals in the late 90s. Has anyone been there recently? Do you mean the standalone Monopoly where the way to win was to go back 3 spaces onto Mayfair? I haven't seen that one in a LONG time. What does the '11' signify? - is that a vers...

Re: pros v semi pros v fun players

By professional I mean sole source of income from quiz machines.no grey economy or claiming benefit. Its time for the pseudonyms to declare their status pro or non pro. I doubt if there are many players now who do it full-time without any government subsidy at all. The status of full-time pro quiz m...

I think the machine is only going to pay whatever its miserable payout level is no matter what you do. Obviously it is going to loosen up and may appear "fair" when it has money to give away. The real test is getting to the money game when the the first part is a brick wall. And then see h...

Quiz Master was certainly a good machine. You could control the win scores yourself. Pitch all 10 scores around 40k and it was out of the range of ordinary punters, and would save all the pay-out money for yourself. This was a feature that wasn't repeated with any subsequent machines. Give us a Brea...

......I was 99% certain which game it was, but can't take the chance that there's another game I'm missing out on, since with deference to the wordupsters amongst you, I don't play these things for entertainment. So which game is that then? :) I agree though it must take some doing to get banned fr...
